Choosing the wines this week certainly required keeping a close eye on the weather forecast.
Rather than a crisp zingy summery white I opted for the more rounded but still very lively 2016 La Lisse de Soie D'Ivoire Haute Valle De l'Aude. More usually found in the Loire Valley this Chenin Blanc is planted at altitude in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
The ripe yet crunchy fruit gives this wine its freshness, vigour and spine and at the same time its luscious texture which is further complemented and enriched from partial vinification and maturation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak.
The £9.99 per bottle range of wines are now reduced by 20% to £7.99 a bottle when you buy a mixed case of only 6 wines.
We all like a bottle with an animal/ bird/ insect on it so I decided to focus my thoughts on the lovely 2015 (Great Vintage) Cicada IGP Mediterranee.
Made by the guys at the famous Chateauneuf estate Domaine Chante Cigale it is a juicy blend of Grenache and Carignan. The former is vinified in concrete and the latter is aged in old Burgundy casks to round out the tannins.
£12.99 per bottle or 6 for £65
And now that the weather has really gone down hill then Erik suggested the stunning Thomas Goss Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale in Australia. What a deal this is!!!!
£14.99p/b £120 for 12 or 2 for £25. This will put a smile on your face after a long week. You know you deserve it.
