St. Laurent A. Christmann

In the traditional Mittelhaardt district, the cousins Johann Martin and Prof. Dr. Louis Häusser regularly met to discuss the democratic ideas of the time. Probably inspired by the surroundings as well as the local wine, they soon decided to purchase a vineyard of their own, thereby laying the cornerstone of today’s estate. Since the mid-90s at the latest, it has numbered among the top estates of the Pfalz. Two-thirds of the vineyard area is devoted to Riesling; except for a few lusciously sweet specialties, all of the wines are vinified dry in style. Saint-Laurent is an old variety that has been cultivated in Gimmeldingen since 1820. The grapes are picked by hand, destemmed and fermented on the skins for two weeks. The finished wine is bottled after one year in barriques. It is a good wine for every day but will only fully develop its flavour after some storage time.

Commemorating the History of this wine, Bauhaus artist Hans Schlösser depicts the scenes of the mid 1920’s as the Graf Zeppelin operated the transatlantic skies where the great wines of Mülheimer Sonnenlay were proudly served on board. The wine smells of apple, citrus and slate stone with a clean pure structure. It gives a mineral texture with rich mouth-filling flavours of orchard fruits and juicy layers. It shows a well zesty and spicy refreshing style along with a lengthy elegant fruit structure finish.
